Airbyte is focused on the next 18 months. We have major milestones that we are looking for our teams to meet in that timeframe. In the spirit of how we are focusing on driving velocity, creating urgency and refocusing our teams, we have decided to change our approach to compensation and rewards.

Velocity Awards

While our former Impact Awards were  for our merit and promotion process, we are rebranding Impact Awards to be similar to a “spot bonus.” These new awards will be called Velocity Awards.

A Velocity Award is a reward given to employees for exceptional performance, actions, or results. They are monetary, and are usually given at a specific time. These bonuses can be a cost-effective way to recognize employees and promote retention. They can also help to motivate and engage other employees.

Instead of making impact awards that are “merit” and “promotion,” Velocity Awards will be seen similarly to a spot bonus. These instances should be a point in time rather than ongoing contributions. Examples of when you should nominate for a velocity award:

  1. Exceptional Performance: Recognize employees who consistently exceed performance expectations in their role. This could include achieving outstanding results on key projects, surpassing performance metrics, above and beyond in customer satisfaction and/or consistently delivering exceptional work.
  2. Innovative Solutions: Reward employees who come up with innovative solutions to challenges or problems faced by the company. This might involve implementing a new process or technology that significantly improves efficiency or quality.
  3. Cost Savings or Revenue Generation: Recognize employees who contribute to cost savings or revenue generation for the company. This might include identifying opportunities to reduce expenses, increase sales, or improve profitability through innovative ideas or initiatives.

Process & Eligibility:

Merit & Promotion Process

Our merit and promotion process is separate from Velocity Awards. When assessing if an employee is ready for promotion, you should compare their performance against the below promotion rubric, their current level, their future level and their SMART goals. If an employee is not ready for promotion, Airbyte will consider a merit increase. This would be a pay increase based on many of the same factors of the promotion rubric while showing success in current level. These employees would not be ready quite yet for the next level but have shown us that they create growth in their current role and should be rewarded.
